FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Nuturing the potential of every youth and teen.

 

Teen Programs

 

Teen Leader's Club

  • Club activities include weekly meetings, special events, field trips, lock-ins, fundraising, and service learning projects.
  • These activities are held throughout the year with plenty of opportunities to develop new skills, find new interest and spend time with friends.
  • Club meets Thursday from 6:30- 8:30 PM.
  • New members are welcome to join at any time.
  • The club is lead by elected officers who are chosen from the club membership and work closely with the club advisors to plan upcoming events and activities based on club interests.
  • Fun and fellowship are a focus of every Teen Leaders Club Activity.
  • Cost: $1.00 per week

 

Teen Nights

  • Allow an opportunity for young adults to come to the YMCA for an evening with adult supervision and to use the facility to the max.
  • Teens may play games in the lobby, use the gym, swim in the pool and take part in special activities.
  • School Id is required.
  • Held the second Saturday of each month October - May.
  • Middle School Dance November and May.

 

S.T.A.C. (Summer Teen Activity Club)

  • Is a YMCA Day Camp program for teens ages 12-15.
  • STAC adheres to our day camp philosophy, but allows teens to participate in a larger range of daily activities.
  • Activities include teambuilding, service-learning projects, fundraising, field trips, sports & recreation, problem solving, and swimming.
  • STAC stresses the YMCA values of caring, honesty , respect and responsibility in all activities.
  •  STAC offers two exciting locations. 
  • The YMCA program will run for all 10 weeks of the summer while our Starpoint site will provide service for the first 8 weeks of the summer.
  • Campers may register for one or all weeks of STAC.
  • Each week of STAC features activities based on a particular theme.
  • Counselors are carefully selected and attend extensive YMCA training. All staff maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • STAC exceeds the required camper to staff ratio and is NYS Board of Health Certified.
  • STAC hours of operation are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Cost:  YMCA STAC - $100 YMCA Member & $175 Program Member
              Starpoint STAC - $105 YMCA Member & $180 Program Member

Aquatic Training

 

Competitive Swim Team (ages 6-18 years)

Everybody swims, everybody wins! The Lockport Family YMCA competitive swim team is one or our most popular programs!

  • Compete in the Rochester Area YMCA League. 
  • Practice: Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
  • Swim Meets: Saturday. Program Runs: September - March.
  • Must be a YMCA member.

 

Lifeguard Training

This course is held to train potential lifeguards who will be able to secure jobs and provide Niagara county with proper supervision at its aquatic facilities.

  • Prerequisites include: ability to swim 500 yards, tread water for 2 minutes, legs only, retrieve 10# brick from bottom of pool, and must be 15 years of age.
  • Sessions run December, April & June - call for details. 

 

Porpoise Club

  • An aquatic club for teenagers 13 and above.
  • Participants must pass Shark level in the YMCA youth swim program.
  • Those not presently involved in the YMCA swimming program may also join if their swimming skills are adequate.
  • Teens will have a chance to develop leadership skills, provide community service, and create and participate in challenging, exciting adventures.
  • This club will explore water fun, fitness, safety, pre-life guarding skills and volunteer service.

 

Youth Fitness Center

No one under 16 years old can be in the Fitness Center or Weight Room, unless part of a YMCA Instructional Program.

Children 13-16 years old will be permitted to use these facilities if they meet the following qualifications:

  • Submit a copy of their doctor's approval to participate in fitness training;
  • Health Form on file; attend the two required orientation training session with fitness staff;
  • and a parent or guardian accompanies them at all stations.

Parent or guardians will not be required during "formalized classes" or on Monday - Friday from 3:30-4:30 PM when trained YMCA staff

will provide direct supervision and the youth member has met the mandatory prerequisites.
